Photo Technology Tokyo Tokyo Harbor

I spent the last 3 days at a BREW training held near Telecom Center station (on Yurikamome line, past the once-trendy Odaiba). Here are a few photos taken today by Tokyo Harbor (right around here) while eating my sandwich.

Was Odaiba ever trendy? I've always perceived at as being a family-oriented entertainment/shopping area.

Hmm, well it may depend what you call trendy, I guess I just meant popular. I just don't hear about it as much lately as a few years ago.

When they first built Decks about 10 yrs ago it was the most popular spot for dates so I guess you could call it once-trendy.

What do you think of BREW? Does it have a future?

BREW seems to be fast, and I think it's better than the DoCoMo and the Java EZappli which being Java-based are slow (to start-up at least) and resource-consuming.

AU is a good platform for development cause it offers full access to the keitai's features and even a file system (DoCoMo only gives each application a ridiculously small "scratch pad" for data saving). However, it's not easy to publish applis, you need to get a KDDI license and pay everytime you want to publish a new version, even if it's just for internal use at your own company or such. KDDI must also read and approve all source, so it seems like it takes a while too. Real pain in the ass.

BREW has a lot of support from many providers everywhere in the world, but so far in Japan, KDDI is the only one, and since the others have made other choices it may stay that way. So I think its future here all depends on AU's popularity.
