- Maki Nomiya's 60th birthday show feat. Yokoyama Ken (Crazy Ken Band) (on Fuji TV NEXT). First planned for her birthday in March, the show had been postponed and finally was held at Billboard Live Tokyo, in front of a social distanced audience. The show was streamed live on online pay TV channel Fuji TV NEXT to which I subscribed to watch it!
Maki performed several Pizzicato Five songs, as well as several covers including new ones of "Moon River" (with new Japanese written by Konishi Yasuharu) and "L.O.V.E." (in duet with Yokoyama Ken who also turned 60 in July), and a Burt Bacharach Medley that she sung in English.
Her outfits were most impressive. The tradition in Japan being that people wear red for their 60th birthday (also called "kanreki"), she wore two different red dresses, one which transforms into a mini-skirt. She wore an "akai chanchanko" (traditional kanreki wear) specially designed for her, which looked like a huge fluffy heart. And for the encore she wore a glittery silver top with also a large glittery ribbon on her head, and a black futuristic ribbon-like mini-skirt, in which she started by singing "20th Century Girl" which was really awesome!
This was a truly wonderful show, and I hope it will get released in a way or another (that "Moon River" cover does need to see the daylight again!). Nevermind the number that's her age, Maki is always stunningly awesome and a fantastic entertainer. I'm always looking forward to what she'll be up to next. By the way, on the same day it was announced that a new version of "Twiggy Twiggy" will be released in December, performed by Sally Kubota Group (the new project of SOLEIL's leader/bassist) and sung by Maki! It will be released on 7" on December 2, 2020. Of course I'll post details again a bit later. :)

New project: On my site Tokyo's Coolest Sound, I started a new "Live streaming info" section where I post info of live streaming shows from Japan that catch my interest, selecting ones which can apparently be viewed from anywhere in the world. Some are free, some require buying a ticket. Most of these events are only advertised in Japanese otherwise, so I write just a few basic details.
There's also a chronological calendar page. Because finding out starting times might be tricky from different timezones, I placed a countdown clock on each event page, and also put a "Now" line in the calendar.
