Blog - MySpace

Technology MySpace

For the better or the worse, I finally gave in and joined MySpace. My main purpose is to "bookmark" the MySpace pages of my friends and artists I like, as there are now too many of these and I've been losing track. At the same time I'll be able to read all of my "friends"' blogs aggregated in one place.

So those who have an account, feel free to add me. :)

Confirming the impression I had as an outside viewer, generally speaking, the usability of MySpace is a total disaster... The layout is confusing. "FAQ" and "Help" both link to the same place. I couldn't figure out what "subscribing to a blog" really means (will this send me an email every time? and how do I unsubscribe?) until I found the "Blog" page. It took me a while to figure out that "Home" goes to my account's page, not the MySpace home page... Just to name a few.

I guess I just have to get used to it like the billion of others.

Noooooooooooo!!! I refuse to create an account there. I cannot stand the site.

I once created a band account there — but I've since intentionally lost the password.

myspace must be one of the most annoying websites in the internets.

virb.com fills the same... need? and it's a lot tidier and friendly. But the reall "need" for myspace is the lots of people who are there. It's a pity.

I'll stop here, but I could write for ages! I hate mixi 97% as much.

Jean, I stand in shame!

ale, I didn't know of Virb. Looks pretty neat!!
I really do hate MySpace with passion, but as you said, its [only] power is that everyone is on there... Sad.

I thought doing the same thing, for similar reasons ... but myspace uses localazation and now only speaks Italian with me and I have yet to find where I can change that (yep, even googled that) .. localization sucks ... I also get all these date adds of obvious American looking girls supposedly living right next to me ... sigh

Same thing in Japan! You can switch to English by going to "MySpace International" at the very bottom and selecting "Global Site" (don't bother with the "U.S.A." link at the bottom, it doesn't even work!).
And yes it took me a while to figure it out too. :)

Oh no. It's a self fulfilling thing, isn't it? Everyone is on it because they think everyone else is on it...
Keep us posted on whether your aggregator scheme works - maybe once you set it up you won't have to deal with the hideousness of MySpace itself anymore. I don't ever go there if I can help it.

> Keep us posted on whether your aggregator scheme works

MySpace's aggregator shows latest posts of my subscribed MySpace blogs within the browser. But I wanted the data by RSS (to get the latest titles in my news reader), so I scripted myself a custom RSS feed that does the job, and I'm happy that it saves me a bit from seeing the site. :)
