Tokyo Google Maps Tokyo

Nishi-ShinjukuGoogle Maps now has satellite views of Tokyo! Though street maps aren't there yet, limiting its usefulness, it's a lot of fun to zoom down on places I know.

Here are some locations I found:

Since all photos being used aren't so recent, it's fun to notice missing buildings, such as the 1999-built Sumitomo Nakano-sakaue building, missing on the northeast corner of the Nakano-sakaue crossing.

Update 6/23 (17:45):
What's this mess?!

Part of the center of Amsterdam is available too! The rest of the Netherlands will be "filled in" later this year.

Hmm, that link was of Tokyo. You need to first click "Link to this page" before copying the URL.
A search for "Amsterdam" doesn't work, and my geography isn't exactly good enough to find it. :)

Maybe around here?

I like how the Google satellite maps give such a different point of view of a city.

Search for Amsterdam Netherlands.

I keep thinking if they'd update these things regularly it could lead to some sort of new artform. People would be inspired to go about constructing stuff for the sake of snoopy satelites. Constructed replicas of downed UFOs (like that church that really really looks like a flying saucer in Helsinki), giant obscene graphics, etc.

Is it proper to show the Emperor's place that way?

You can claim that 100+ meter tall Buddah statue in Ibaraki is Daimajin on the loose... if the map went up that far in high res.

...And there's a nasty blurry seam running down through shibuya

Actually, after getting kind of bored with Tokyo (I had a few boring days at work), I went looking for crop circles but didn't find any. :)
