Cinema Tokyo Monsters invasion at HMV

LeavesToday I passed by HMV Shinjuku South (at Takashimaya), and they had this big installation of Godzilla, Mothra and MechaGodzilla. :)

Also today I bought the ¥500 promo DVD they sell at the combini. It has a music clip of Mothra's theme, sung by the Small Beauties. This time it's in a bit more of a pop-ish version. The DVD also contains comments from actors and the director, and also a bunch of previews. It was worth its price!

I'm not yet sure whether I'll go see the movie at the theatre, but I'd like to!

Small models and toys of Mothra are sold in toy stores and on Amazon.co.jp (though they only ship toys within Japan).

For the big Mothra, better forget it unless you're very rich.

~These are actually not incredibly expensive. They cost around $4000.00. For what it is it is a fair price.

So what are they promoting exactly? As far as I can tell that's the poster to the film "Godzilla × Mothra × MechaGodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S."-- that came out back in 2003. So is it a DVD reissue they are promoting? It doesn't sound like you could go see that one in a theater now or soon.

BTW regarding Mothra there were a lot of Mothra sequel/remakes since the 90s both with and without Godzilla. The ones with just Mothra tend to be for smaller children and have budgets to match. None of them touch the magic of the original Mothra film and the couple Godzilla films from the 60s with Mothra and the Peanuts.

There was talk of a Godzilla 3D IMAX movie that wasn't going to be full length but I don't know if they actually started shooting. Supposedly they weren't going to make more after "Final Wars" (2004) for at least a few years (that's the one after "Tokyo S.O.S." on the poster in the photo)

This is a photo and blog post from 2003, so yes it was promoting the movie while it was playing in theaters, if I recall right. :)

The early Mothra films I've seen were great. And an IMAX movie would be awesome! Now if only we'd have an IMAX theater left in Tokyo... I think they all disappeared some years ago.

oops - I see the post is from 2003. ;-) Anyway the next movie "Final Wars" was more amusing.
