Music FPM "Zoo" and v/a "nippon no taido"

Today I've grabbed these two CDs which just came out:

Fantastic Plastic Machine "Zoo"Fantastic Plastic Machine "Zoo"
This is a remix album of songs from FPM's latest album Too. Remixers include Tahiti 80, Mondo Grosso, Masters At Work, Le Knight Club, TUCKER, Koop, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra and TOMITA Lab. There's also cover of "Never Ever" by PE'Z, and a brand new groovy track by FPM called "You" (of which a short loop can be heard at FPM's official Web site.
After a first listen I'm satisfied with most tracks, especially the new song, as well as "Reaching for the Stars" remixed by Masters At Work and "Philosophy" by Le Knight Club.

The limited edition comes with a DVD containing the video for the song "matakitene" sung by MIYAZAKI Tomu.

I just listened to the new single on ZOO, and I think I like it. I haven't been the biggest of fans of FPM for his last 2 albums (I don't hate the stuff, but I'm just much fonder of the style he was using on his first two albums), but this track has a fun disco feel that I like.

I still enjoy what he's doing. Even though he's went into house on a mainstream label, for the last 2 albums, his sound is still fresh and interesting.

I'd like to see him live again sometime soon!
However he seems to only ever play at Yellow, of which I'm a bit tired (I know you are too).

if i didn't like too do you think i'd like the remix album? is it a radically reworking of the songs like the remix album for beautiful or more of a straightforward remixing?

Hey William! Thanks for dropping by. :)

Well "Zoo" is remixes of songs from "Too", and they're pretty straight-forward (no big messing up, unlike Cornelius "PM"(!)), but most tracks have the remixer's sound rather than FPM's.
If you do like the songs' melodies and vocals perhaps you wouldn't hate it. Most of it is still pretty house though.
I'd suggest sampling it first though (I just tried to find a site with samples with no luck...).

Now after two listens I think my favorites are the ones by PE'Z (actually a cover), Tahiti 80 and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.

i'll probably be dropping by quite often patrick. it's about time you started a blog! :)

as chance would have it, they were playing zoo at tower when i stopped by there today. i didn't hear enough to decide if i want to fork out the money for it or not though.

Thanks! :) I've been visiting yours too!

That's cool that you get new Japanese releases so quickly over there! How do the prices compare?

i didn't get a good look at the disc. i only saw it on the now playing display with no price. so i'm not sure if this was the general release for the rest of asia on avex(the remix is on avex right?) or if they had just imported the japanese issue. if it's the japanese issue it'll probably sell for around 20 bucks(u.s.), if it's the edition for the rest of asia it'll probably sell for around 12 bucks u.s. maybe less if you shop around. i'm not sure what the rules are for what gets a general asian avex release and what does not. i never saw general versions of sketch show for example. not sure if that means they don't exist or that the shops just never got it in.
