i feel like
today everything
will be alright
today is the day
for a change of season

if i call
you today
will you please
say this
one word
'love'

this new
morning's
memorandum number one:
you know it's a perfect morning
right from the start when you wake up

i'm humming
a song i just learned
in this new morning

love is always like this
it begins suddenly
for no apparent reason

especially in the morning
a clear early morning
on a day when
everything looks
shining bright
on a day when you whispered
one word: 'love'

this new morning's
memorandum number two:
the perfect world
will simmer with love

in the new morning
the smell of pancakes
i'm hungry

the follow up for
this morning's memorandum:
everybody is entitled
to a perfect day

in the new morning
fresh juice

everything is going
too well today
it's as if the world
was going to change today

when everything
goes
wrong
please just say this
one word: 'love'
and hug me

the summarised version
of this morning's memorandum:
one day
there will be a perfect world

a moment in the morning
a peaceful moment
in this new world
in this perfect world

i heard the phone ring
then it stopped
it woke me up
it's past two in the afternoon
it's raining

my hair is a mess
a crumpled letter on the floor
a letter i wrote
and threw away last night

glasses with wine and the
whisky i drank last night
the cat is walking around
the ashtray full of
cigarette ends

i wonder why the war
is not over
i wonder why
there's still war

when i have a hang-over
i don't need any music
i can't stand
any music

i went through my mail
threw a lot of letters away
had some tea
and the afternoon was over

i just stayed home
waiting for my new lover
whom i called
last night
but thinking of you

isn't war over
today?
i don't think
war will end

why isn't
war over yet?
why isn't
war over?

i was invited
for dinner
to an expensive restaurant
where only rich people go

i don't think i'll be wearing
the clothes i was wearing last night
i'll put on new clothes
and go out
i'll ask my rich friends
'what does it
feel like
to be
rich?'

i wonder if
war will be over
i don't think
war will ever be over
(repeat)

Translator's note: As usual this is a 'concept' single. it draws some of its metaphors from the sixties communist hype (chairman mao and fidel castro: the 'perfect world', the military look, a future when there will be no war...) but of course everything was filtered through john lennon's lenses: 'war is over', 'imagine' and the beatle's 'revolution' must be the most important references here. all konishi's political ideas are a recycled version of another pop singer's. THANK GOD.

The other brilliant idea is the very effective use konishi makes in this single of one of his favourite metaphors: the awakening. there are two different kinds of awakenings in konishi's poetic universe:

(1) positive, beautiful mornings: konishi wakes up and has breakfast and the sun is shining and everything is perfect and beautiful. he already feels the anticipation of great things to come.
eg the awakening
it's a beautiful day
concerto
sweet soul revue
perfect world

(2) depressive, awful mornings (generally hung-over): he wakes up and everything feels awful, he's depressed, he doesn't even want to listen to music.
eg rolls royce
ma vie, l'ete de vie
triste
la guerre est finie

In this single, the perfect morning when everything seems bright and positive is opposed to an awful 'morning' (not even a morning, because he wakes up at two...) when everything seems awful and dark. the contrast he makes us feel by opposing these two ways of perceiving 'the awakening' is very powerful.
