the Loupes (Instagram, 𝕏), a band based in Hiroshima, has recently released a brand new album titled "Subcity" at the end of last year.
The new album is so far only available on CD at their shows and online shop (shipping within Japan). A few single tracks from the album were released in advance digitally ("Congratulations, Baby", "Story Writers", "ANA" and "Dumb Dawn"). The song "Plaza" is one of the new songs that first appeared on this album.

2. Natsumi Shimazaki (Chiroline) with CTO LAB. "itsu no hi ka Happy End" (2026)
(Japanese title: 島崎夏美(チロリン) with CTO LAB. 「いつの日かHappy End」)
From the recent tribute album to Tohru Okada, a member of Moonriders and CTO LAB. who passed away in 2023, "Adventures in Modern Recording by TOHRU OKADA", this is a cover of "itsu no hi ka Happy End", a song that he wrote and was originally sung by Anri. Here it is performed by his band CTO LAB., also formed of polymoog (Elektel) and Kentaro Imai (Aprils), and sung by former Chiroline main member Natsumi Shimazaki.
Chiroline is a girl group that Tohru Okada produced from 1986 to 1989. In 2012 the project was restarted as Chiroline ver.2 and backed by CTO LAB. The tribute album also contains some covers of Chiroline's songs, sung by other vocalists. It's available only on CD (CDJapan, Amazon, HMV, Tower (Japan only)).

3. Den Baron "Swedish Pop feat. Hideki Kaji" (2026)
Den Baron (Den Baron), the solo project of Germany-based artist Zwen Keller (of band Brideshead), has released a new album titled "Friends" this year for Record Store Day 2026. Released on blue-very label in Japan, it consists of collaborations with many artists including many from Japan. "Swedish Pop" featuring Hideki Kaji is one of these. Other featured artists from Japan are Mayumi Ikemizu (Three Berry Icecream), Megumi Mashiro (Hicksville, Modern Choki Chokies, etc.), Osamu Shimada (The Caraway), and Gōta Nishidera (Nona Reeves).
The album is only available on vinyl (coming with a download code) (disques blue-very, Tower (Japan only)), though it can be sampled on the label's Bandcamp.

4. AIR-CON BOOM BOOM ONESAN "Ai No Senshi Shi Lapuri" (2026)

Wink Music Service, the group formed of Keitarō Takanami (Playtime Rock, ex-Pizzicato Five) and Sally Kubota (The Scooters, She's a Rainbow, ex-The Phantom Gift/Les 5-4-3-2-1/SOLEIL), has just released a brand new single that is sung in duet by Keitarō and first-time participant Saki Ohga (𝕏) (previously a member of idol group Sakura Gakuin). The title song "Tout Va Bien" is a new original with music written by Sally Kubota.
The single's B-side is a cover of Marina Watanabe's "daisuki na Shirt ~ 1990 ryokō sakusen", a song written by Flipper's Guitar.
The single was also released on 7", though it apparently sold out within days of being first announced, the songs are also available on download/streaming platforms (Spotify,

And to end this time's selection is the latest original track from Milk Talk (Instagram, 𝕏, Bandcamp), the duo formed of The Hair Kid, a U.S.-born musician who lives in Himeji (Hyōgō pref.), and Tokyo-based vocalist Q.i. In yet more recent news, Milk Talk have teamed up with XL Middleton for a song titled "Funkin' Me Up", a remake of Minoru "Hoodoo" Fushimi's "In Praise Of Mitochondria" (from 1985). An in-store event for the new release will be held on Saturday May 30 at Tower Records Shibuya (6F) from 14:00 (details). Then on Thursday June 4, a special show will be held at Shindaita Fever with all featured singers and backed by a full band (details).

1. Frenesi "Undo-Onchi" (2026)

First played is the latest single by Frenesi (Instagram, 𝕏). "Undo-Onchi" is a brand new song released digitally in March (Spotify,
, YouTube Music). It was written by the Otomesha label owner Itaru Kawashima, who previously wrote the music & lyrics of "watashi no Yes Man" and "Sky Bus Tokyo" (from album "Cupra"), and the lyrics of "Inflation II" (from "Märchen"). "Undo-Onchi" means someone bad at sports or phys ed, which Frenesi claims is her case.
This release followed "Oyasumi luna moth" and "jorei si nai de". This year Frenesi has also contributed new songs to Megu (Negicco) ("Le Bon Vivant") and MEWCATUNE ("My Stories Slipping Away").
Frenesi's official online shop offers CDs and various exclusive goods, and it ships internationally.

Evenyan Roller Coaster (Instagram, 𝕏, YouTube) (also the singer of band Nyaa♡Wave) is a one-of-a-kind idol who often has a new wave twist. From her latest CD-R single, "Zettai ♡ Evenyan Shugi" (Spotify,
, YouTube Music), this is the B-side titled "Do Re Mi Fa de Kyun ♡ to tokimeku ♡ korette koi nano?". This song took some inspiration from Shibuya-kei, and it was written by SLF!! (currently of hip-hop unit Love Me Tonight, and previously known for The Lady Spade).
While many of her releases are available on CD-R only, via her online shop or at her shows, she has recently released "Tanzaku CDs" (8cm/3" CDs) for Tanzaku CD Day 2024 ("Sartre de nemurenai") and the Tanzaku CD 37th Anniversary ("Radar Man" (Spotify,

4. usabeni "Not Your Idol (A-bug Remix)" (2026)
This is a new remix of solo idol usabeni (Instagram, 𝕏)'s song "Not Your Idol", remixed by Japan-based Brazilian trackmaker A-bug (Instagram, 𝕏). Respectful of the original pop tune, the track is updated with hints of future bass and Baile funk. "Not Your Idol (A-bug Remix)" is out on download/streaming platforms (Spotify,

Following last year's 1st mini-album "Pinky Fluffy" (2025), a 2nd one from the Sally Kubota-produced girl group She's a Rainbow titled "Un-Deux-Trois" has been released in April. The song "Good Bye, Teddy Bear" is a cover of SOLEIL from the first album "My Name is SOLEIL" (2018). The song has music written by Yumi Okada and lyrics originally by Yuko Iizumi (microstar). This new cover is sung in English, which were translated from Japanese by myself.
The new mini-album is available on CD (HMV, Tower (Japan only), Disk Union), coming in a 7"-sized package with a 16-page photo booklet, or digitally on download/streaming platforms (Spotify,

Geno London (𝕏) is the band led by guitarist Geno Sato (previously known as Ai Satō of band The Hair). Having been doing several digital releases in the recent year, this one is an original titled "manifestes ye-ye" (Spotify,

]]>Negicco has released a brand new song digitally, titled "Ghosts". It was written by Kyoto singer-songwriter Cuushe (Instagram) and produced by aus (Instagram).
This song was played suddenly after the end of Negicco's latest show on Sunday, April 26, a show where they came back on stage following a break for the maternity leave of member Kaede.

Following the release of 1st mini-album "Pinky Fluffy", here comes a 2nd one from girl group She's a Rainbow. Featuring members Lin Oberndorff, Kokoa, Mio Amakawa and Nanako Aoyama, the group is produced by Sally Kubota (Wink Music Service, The Scooters, ex-The Phantom Gift, ex-Les 5-4-3-2-1, ex-SOLEIL).
This time again, included are some self-covers of SOLEIL ("Good Bye, Teddy Bear" and "Marine I Love You") and Les 5-4-3-2-1 ("Un-Deux-Trois"), all of which were newly translated to English. Also included are covers of The Rolling Stones' "Gomper" and Eric Donaldson's "Cherry Oh Baby" (also covered by UB40 and The Rolling Stones). The CD comes in a 7"-sized package, with a 16-page photo booklet.
The musicians are Sally Kubota on bass, Hideki "Gen" Hara on drums, Nero on guitar (and other instruments), and Takashi Itani on percussions. The arrangements were done by Sally and Nero. The whole was mixed and mastered by Seiki Satō.

On Saturday, April 25, an in-store event will be held at Merurido in Kawagoe (Saitama prefecture) from 13:00, with a mini-live of She's a Rainbow (with percussionist Takashi Itani) and talk time with MC Sally Kubota, followed by an autograph session. Two Moonriders-related covers by idol 3776 (read Minanaro) a.k.a. Chiyono Ide. The A-side is an early single cut from the upcoming tribute album "Adventures in Modern Recording by Tohru Okada" to be released on April 23. The song "Good Night wa kirai" was written by Tohru Okada (Moonriders) and originally sung by Tsukasa Itō. The B-side is from another Moonriders tribute album, "16 Songs of Hirobumi Suzuki" (released in 2024). Moonriders' keyboardist Tohru Okada passed away in 2023.

MEWCATUNE (Instagram, 𝕏), an idol group formed in 2021 in Niigata, has a new double-A-side single out now of which the song "My Stories Slipping Away" was written and arranged by Frenesi (Instagram, 𝕏), of which she explains that the title is an homage to Françoise Hardy's "Ma jeunesse fout le camp". The other song "Kitto Seikai" was written by Daisuke Adachi (of the Kyoto-based group Emerald Four).
The single is available on CD and on download/streaming platforms.
